52 Photos Project - Neon

This week at 52 Photos Project it's neon colour.

We bought Jon a Ginko Biloba tree (more common name here in Canada is a Maidenhair tree) for Father's Day and he's been trying to decide where he wants to plant it. This has required the movement of a pylon around the yard to judge best views from the house. So far this spot is winning - it's in the front yard and can be seen from the living room, the stairs when we come down from upstairs and the kitchen/front porch.

This picture was taken while standing in our front porch. (As was the second one).

I guess technically the yellow of my primrose isn't a neon - but it sure is bright and beautiful!

Celebrating the Summer Solstice in the Garden

(I'm taking a break from regularly scheduled programming. Friday Favourites will resume next week.)

In summer, the song sings itself.

William Carlos Williams

It's the summer solstice and I can't imagine celebrating summer and the longest day of the year in anyway besides in the garden.

I have a few things to do this morning and then I'm back here and back into my garden. I have some regular maintenance to do and a few things to plant so I can't wait to be done my errands.

I just might take a quick stop (or two) at the nursery and see what's new and what catches my eye. I'll let you know what I find!

In the mean time here are some more shots of what's going on right now - I just took these photos this morning...I simply can't resist a blossom or bloom!

Here are a few more peonies. I can hardly believe I have so many of them after waiting so long!

This one looks like a heart!!

My rose has bloomed since yesterday...notice the little visitor. He just wouldn't leave!

My yarrow has also started to bloom since yesterday.

Here's the last bleeding heart for the year :(

And some cheery chamomile.

Have a great weekend everyone! See you next week.

My Summer Garden

It's almost summer and my garden is doing well. I guess it's all the rain we've had so far.

Here's what's happening right now....

You know how much I love columbine, they're just so sculptural.

I waited 3 years for iris and for peonies - look what's finally here!!

My Mother's Day roses are just about to bloom.

My yarrow is on the way to blooming too.

My violets are still a riot of colour - thanks to mostly cool days so far.

I've got more sweet william than ever.

And since you know I don't discriminate and all flowers are welcome I also have one wee buttercup. Maybe more to come?

52 Photos Project - Chopped

This week at 52 Photos Project it's chopped. My first thought was "what the heck?!" And then I thought of all the possibilities. This week is going to be a good one. I'm looking forward to seeing all the contributions and interpretations.

Here's another one of our little buildings...one day it just might be my studio!

And another more expected one....

Friday Favourites - June 14, 2013

Here's my favourite photo I took this week. I love the colours and if you look closely you can see the barn in the silhouette.

My favourite quote from this week:

"She is a friend of my mind. ... The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order."

52 Photos Project - Stripes

This week at 52 Photos Project the challenge is stripes. Here's my interpretation of stripes!

This is one of the old log buildings on our farm. I love the texture and the feel of old buildings and this little building is actually one of the reasons we bought our place.

Sunshiny Day!

We've had so much rain around here the last few weeks that when yesterday was sunny it was like coming out of hibernation (again).

Jon's parents sold their farm almost 3 years ago and when they did some of the plants were transplanted here. I'm a very patient gardener and I've been waiting for the iris and peonies to bloom for those 3 years.

I got an iris blossom this weekend! I was so excited I dashed out and took pictures at 6:45 am...on a Sunday!!

Peonies will be next. And I can't wait for them either!

We got a lot done around here this weekend.

The whole yard mowed, the front walk done, the seedlings planted. There's always more to do but it was a really nice weekend.

The front walkway is looking good.
A wee visitor.
Annoying, but beautiful too.
I love columbine!
I really, really do :)
I also love iris..
especially the first one.
Look at this little guy...
randomly growing in
the walkway.
Weeds...but pretty too.

Friday Favourites - June 7, 2013

Here's my favourite photo that I took this week. It's not my usual but I love the details. Look at the fuzz caught in his leg and the little hairs all over him. Looking at his hair makes mine stand on end!!

My favourite quote from this week is:

"Every morning, when we wake up, we have 24 brand new hours to live. What a precious gift!"

—  Thich Nhat Hanh

Some goodies I like this week...

An article worth reading about life.

Some SERIOUSLY brave women here!

Here's Martha Beck on procrastinating.

A little local flavour - because you all know how much I want a pond!

And a little humour for the week.

Have a great weekend everyone - see you next week!!

52 Photos Project - Crimson

This week at 52 Photos Project it's Crimson. This was tough for me because I'm probably one of the very few people on earth who dislike red. I contemplated not participating this week for that reason.

But here I am with a simple snapshot I took of my salad - I think it fills the bill pretty well actually...and it was yummy too! :)
